Young people have always been keen to experiment and test their boundaries, but alcohol misuse brings health risks. Since 2010, when local authorities imposed that all premises to have in place an age verification policy, door supervisors and staff who serve alcohol are taking age verification much more seriously.

As false ID is a problem in a number of areas, SFS has been organising for years an advanced training for its staff, to minimise uncertainty about how to deal with this issue.

Last month DVLA has introduced a new style photocard driving licence, which door supervisors and staff who serve alcohol should be aware of.

The new style photo driving licence presents holographic features containing a steering wheel, road and speedometer, in which the needle appears to move when the card is held along the short edges and tilted back and forth.  The wheel image illustrated on the right hand side of the card is produced with colour changing ink (from green to gold).

It also has raised lettering for surname, which can be felt when a finger is run across the card and can be seen when viewed at an angle.

Those are some of the features of the new driving licence, as a brief guidance on how to determine whether the new ID is real or false.

It is essential that door staff understand how to identify false ID and deal with it appropriately. They act on the frontline and must ensure that alcohol consumed on premises is done so legally.
