One of the main duties of the SIA is the compulsory licensing of individuals working in specific sectors of the private security industry.

If currently, SIA accepts paper or phone applications, a new licensing system will be introduced in July 2016. Under the new system all licence applications (including renewals) will be completed and submitted through the new self-service website.

Applying for or renewing a licence by phone will no longer be available and paper applications will only be accepted in exceptional circumstances.

It is expected that the new licensing system will improve and speed up the process of granting SIA licences.

During the switch over to the new licensing system in July 2016, there will be a 2 weeks period when SIA will not process licence applications, including renewals.

Anyone who’s SIA licence is due to expiry within the next 4 month could avoid possible delay by applying over the phone as soon as possible.
